If you have made contributions or currently contribute to global environmental sustainability, you may want to keep an eye on the UAE’s new 10-year residence visa. The Blue Visa initiative was announced during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai (held from February 11th to 13th) by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP).

In its initial phase, 20 individuals of the following categories will be awarded the Blue Visa.

  • Sustainability leaders
  • Members of international organizations and associations
  • Members of NGOs
  • Corporate leaders
  • Global award winners
  • Environmental researchers
  • Distinguished environmental activists

In addition to the previous Golden and Green visas catering to investors, this visa offers the opportunity for long-term residency to environment and sustainability advocates inside and outside the UAE and is set to attract distinguished individuals with the overarching goal of accelerating progress towards the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy and other environment and research initiatives.

Dr Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted the UAE leadership’s steadfast commitment to advance its position as a global sustainability leader with the Blue Visa initiative’s goal to attract environmental and sustainability leaders and advocates. When speaking to Emirates News Agency WAM, she stated “This initiative aims to leverage their contributions to achieve ambitious national goals and build a sustainable future for the people of the UAE and the world.”

As explained by the ICP Director-General, Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, eligible individuals interested in applying will have access to the Blue Visa service through its website and mobile application 24/7, subject to approved terms and conditions.
